| Staff and learner awareness day (3rd Dec 09 at 3:39pm UTC) | | Hi All,
We have now provisionally booked our first Learner and Staff Awareness Day here at the college. The reason for this is that following some recent feedback from learners we have discovered that we are not fully implementing the every child matters framework into our learners journey.
This awareness day will be open to all staff and learners within the college. Naturally learners and staff here anyway, will be expected to attend, so appointment books etc need to be blocked out. Those staff and learners not in normal attendance at the college should be invited in for the day at their discretion as to whether they feel they would like to attend. We are hoping by doing this that learners and staff will benefit from the professional advice that will be given, as well as being able to give better feedback on how we implement this framework.
The day will be made up of many governing bodies and local charities being invited in to raise awareness in their specific professional areas. So far we have allocated 2 hrs to Local Health Trainers, who are employed by the NHS to work and advice young people from secondary school age upwards. I am also hoping to book in a Smoking Sensation Clinic, Condom Card Project and Drug Awareness sessions. I am also considering making contact with YES (Youth Enquiry Service) to find out if they also would be able to contribute to the day.
The long term plan for these sessions, are that we will run them termly but on a different day each term, therefore capturing as many on-sight learners as possible and giving off-site learners greater flexibility to attend.
I would strongly recommend that all staff not tutoring on the college premises make every effort to attend, as this will enable us all to make sure the content of our roles and advice and support we give our learners is maximised and the ECM framework better embedded.
Should anyone have any other links or Idea's for these sessions I would really appreciate your contributions.
The first date for this awareness day is 22/02/10 9.30am - 2.30pm approx. Please note all teaching sessions must be re-scheduled and lesson plans and SOW amended. Learners normally in college on this day need not be made aware of these sessions as they may see it as a good day to take off. Obviously learners who do not normally attend college should be made aware.
Thank You
Kind Regards Amanda Drew Catten College Quality Manager Tel: 01206 366199 Fax: 01206 366199 amandadrew@cattencollege.co.uk www.cattencollege.co.uk
